Suna East Member of Parliament, Hon. Junet Mohamed who doubles as Minority Party Leader in the National Assembly, has cleared the air concerning links to the post of Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration.

This comes shortly after reports claimed that Junet Mohamed has been poised to replace Interior CS Prof. Kithure Kindiki, should he be sworn in as the Deputy President of the Republic.

In light to this, the lawmaker affirmed that neither him nor his party ODM has made any arrangements to make him assume the said post

“In this context, I have been made aware of unfounded innuendoes to the effect that I have shown interest in the position of Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration and, or, that the ODM Party has submitted my name for consideration in such a role,” said Junet.

Hon. Junet, however, confirmed that if any opportunity comes his way, he is ready to serve Kenyans. Nevertheless, he affirmed that he is not hungry for power since he has a role almost the same as the Interior CS position.

“Whereas an opportunity to serve fellow Kenyans in any capacity is always welcome, I wish to inform the public that I am neither one of the people angling for the job nor has the ODM Party shown any interest in seeking to have another party expert join the government in that capacity,” wrote the MP.

Junet was made the Minority Party Leader not long ago in the National Assembly.

“In any case, I have just recently assumed the leadership of the Minority Party in the National Assembly which is an equally very important constitutional office in our governance architecture,” he added.

The MP said that the country should be allowed to focus on more significant issues rather than mere speculations.

“I do hope this clarification puts the matter to rest and allows the country to focus on more important concerns,” asserted the lawmaker.

Prof. Kithure Kindiki was appointed by President William Ruto as the Deputy President after Rigathi Gachagua was impeached by the Senate.

Kindiki was wholly approved by the National Assembly as was yet to assume the controversial office when conservatory orders stopped the process.

The case against impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua and that one barring swearing in of Kithure Kindiki are currently at the High Court awaiting judgement.
