Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu has asked residents of Kisumu West Sub county to move with speed and register under Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) medical scheme in large numbers so they can be able to access free medical treatment.
The MP who spoke during the Jamhuri Day celebration that was held at Wachara mixed secondary school yesterday told the residents that once they have been registered, they will be in a position to go for treatment in levels 2 and 3 health facilities in the county and would be treated for free.
“Move with speed and register with the Social Health Insurance Fund(SHIF) in large numbers so you can benefit from the same,” said Buyu.
Buyu further expressed concerns after learning from Kisumu West Deputy County Commissioner Mr Wanyonyi Nalianya that out of the 19,000 households in the entire constituency that had been interviewed by the community health workers, only 7,000 households in the constituency have so far been registered.
“I can not be able to treat and meet the medical needs of all the sick persons in my constituency, so take advantage of this and ensure that you have been registered under this new medical scheme,” she emphasized.
She at the same time urged those who haven’t taken the initiative to register under this scheme to do so as a matter of urgency through the community health workers on the ground who have been provided with the required equipments to aid them with registration.
However, scores of residents have been experiencing great confusion regarding Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) and Social Health Authority (SHA) as majority are unable to differentiate between the two medical schemes.
“We are urging the ministry of health to help us differentiate between the two medical schemes because we are totally confused,” said one resident.
