Former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Jessica Aber was found dead yesterday at age 43 at her home in Alexandria during a police wellness check.
She was discovered unresponsive at around 9:18 a.m on Saturday, March 22, inside her residence on the 900 block of Beverly drive. APD (Alexandria Police Department) reported that there is no foul play suspected, but the cause of death is yet to be determined by the Chief medical officer of virginia.
Aber, who was appointed by former U.S. president Joe Biden in 2021 and stepped down earlier this year when Trump took office, was widely acknowledged for restoring public trust in law enforcement. She was also reprimanded for her commitment towards handling terrorism cases, violent cases, white-collar crimes, leaking of classified information and corporate espionage.
According to NBC reports, Abba began her career in 2009 as an assistant EDVA (Eastern District of Virginia). She served as counsel on detailed assignment to the assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice from 2015 to 2016. She also served as deputy chief of EDVA’s criminal division.
Americans, took to their social media platform to send condolences to her family, and pay homage to her legacy.
“We are heartbroken beyond words to learn of the passing of our friend and former colleague, U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber. She was unmatched as a leader, mentor, and prosecutor, and she is simply irreplaceable as a human being. We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all too brief time in the world. Her professionalism, grace, and legal acumen set the standard. Jess was a proud Virginian from high school through college and throughout her career. She loved EDVA and EDVA loved her back. We remain committed to her life’s work, a commitment to seeking justice, as she would have wanted.” Current Attorney of EDVA, Erik S.Siebert wrote.
“I am saddened to learn of the passing of Jessica Aber, whose career of public service included U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and whose work with Ceasefire Virginia saved more lives than we may ever realize.” Attorney General of Virginia Jason Miyares said.
However, Americans did not fail to express their disappointment with the police department. They questioned why the incident was ruled foul play before conducting an autopsy on the body.
They expressed suspicions. Most of them had a hunch that this could be a way of the former government “eating their own” for knowing too much”
“It’s getting scary again.” They said.
Additionally, Aber has been handling cases that could encourage making enemies. She was the prosecutor in the case of the CIA agent who leaked Israeli secrets, and was later pronounced dead.
Reports also show that she was on the verge of exposing an Israeli visa fraud ring , and people are speculating that she may have been silenced for digging too deep.
