Ex ICT Cabinet Secretary Margaret Nyambura on Friday 9th, declined her nomination as Kenya’s ambassador to Ghana.
Nyambura in a letter to the National Assembly’s Defense Committee, cited personal reasons for her decision.
She was due to appear before the Committee which is conducting approval hearings for the nominees.
Belgut MP Nelson Koech who is the chairman of the committee said it was regrettable that for a second time, a nominee had declined the Ghana job.
“I wish to inform you that I will not appear on occasion for personal and compelling reasons,” Nyambura wrote to the Committee through the Clerk of the National Assembly.
“To save precious time of the committee, this letter serves as notice that I will not attend.”
Nyambura becomes the second nominee to decline a nomination to Ghana after former West Mugirango MP Vincent Mogaka declined his nomination as the country’s High Representative to Accra, Ghana last year
Nyambura who was dropped from cabinet following the youth-led countrywide protests was nominated on December 24, 2024, to represent the country in Ghana.
She joins the list of nominees who have turned down state appointments in the wake of public criticism of Kenya Kwanza’s administration.
Other notable leaders who have declined state appointments include former nominated senator Milicent Omanga and former Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka.
Millicent Omanga declined President William Ruto’s appointment to the Nairobi Rivers Commission, citing personal reasons.
Omanga’s decision came after President Ruto reshuffled the Commission’s leadership, appointing Bishop Margaret Wanjiru as chair to lead the revitalization of the Nairobi River.
She was set to replace former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, whose appointment was legally challenged.
Victor Munyaka also declined his appointment as chairman of the Kenya Animal Genetic Resource Centre by President William Ruto.
Ruto in a Kenya Gazette notice published on Friday, October 4 appointed Munyaka to lead the state agency for three years.
In response, Dr Munyaka thanked the Head of State for offering him the opportunity to serve Kenyans in such a capacity. However, after soul-searching, extensive consultations and consideration of the then political climate that threatened the realization of the government’s economic transformation agenda, he said, he made the difficult decision to respectfully decline the appointment.
Other ambassadorial state nominations include former Sports CS Ababu Namwamba who has been nominated to the United Nations Office, Nairobi, Andrew Karanja Brazil and Noor Gabow Kenya’s High Commissioner to Haiti
