Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) defending champions Gor Mahia are pushing hard to re-sign their former striker Benson Omalla before the mid-season transfer window closes.
Omalla, who recently turned out for Lebanese side Safa SC, is a highly sought-after talent, with Tusker FC and Shabana FC also vying for his signature. However, sources close to the 23-year-old forward indicate that he prefers a return to K’Ogalo, where he enjoyed a prolific spell between 2022 and 2024.
During his time with Gor Mahia, Omalla was a goal machine, scoring 45 goals in 54 appearances. He was the FKFPL Golden Boot winner in the 2023-24 season after netting 19 goals. The previous campaign saw him finish as the runner-up top scorer with 26 goals, proving his consistency in front of goal.
Gor Mahia, currently third in the FKFPL table with 35 points, have struggled in attack and view Omalla as the perfect solution to sharpen their frontline as they seek to retain their title.
However, second-placed Tusker, who last lifted the league title in 2021-22, are also keen on securing Omalla’s services. The brewers, under the leadership of veteran coach Robert Matano, want him to partner with current league top scorer Ryan Ogam to bolster their championship push.
Shabana FC, meanwhile, hope to land Omalla as they target a strong finish in the top four.
Omalla’s return to the FKFPL could also serve as a springboard for reviving his Harambee Stars career, having previously featured for Kenya’s U20 and U23 sides.
With time running out in the transfer window, the battle for Omalla’s signature is heating up, and his decision could significantly shape the title race.
