Human rights defender Dr. Isaac Kinity believes that Kenyan Generation Z are best placed to transform the county’s governance.
Speaking on Lumbasi TV’s hard talk show on Friday this week, the former trade unionist said that for the first time in Kenyan history, the youths have the voice on who will ascend to the presidency in 2027.
Kinity said that the political class is aware of this and that is why every faction; opposition and the government is riding on narratives that seem to align with the youths.
“They’re worried, the last thing they’d imagine is to have a fresh leadership. A leadership that is not aligning to their long time con games and unending looting of public funds. You see, that’s why they are running around giving youths promises.” He said.
He cited latest developments where the Kenya Kwanza government is going out to dish money and equipment aimed at empowering youths, saying that it is the same script that the Kenya Kwanza brigade used to hoodwink Kenyans to ascend to power.
Kinity warned Kenyans and more especially the youths to be on the lookout so that they don’t repeat the same mistake they did in 2022.
“Ruto is well aware that he has lost public trust. They are now going out dishing millions whose source no one knows about in an attempt to win public trust. Youths must rise to the occasion and demand accountability. The rising levels of tokenism a few months before the general election must be stopped.” He said, adding that a government that has priority interest in the public, should work to address good working environment and employ good policies that will create more jobs, not tokenism
Kinity who was speaking a few days after a section of youths took to X (formerly Twitter) to compel him to come back to Kenya and run for presidency, said that he is still an active player in challenging president Ruto’s – led government and called on the youths not to tarry from the same goal of ensuring that Ruto doesn’t get another chance to “mess the country’s economy”
“I have heard Gen Zs, I have received very many calls from different people and they’re calling me to come back and run for president. I have what it takes to do so. For now however, the focus is to enlighten the general public on the need to have good governance and to compel this government of looters and abusers of human rights to know that the ultimate power is with the common man, sovereignoo
Xb.?
..mpower belongs to them.” He said, adding that Gen Zs shouldn’t relent on the war.
When the time comes, Kinity said that he will make a public announcement.
“I am not a coward. When time comes to make a decision based on my inward conviction to transform the country, I will make it public. He said
Kinity, who is currently living in Connecticut USA, was one of president Daniel Moi’s fierce critics, challenging the head of state and his KANU brigade on corruption, extra judicial killings and abuse of human rights. Subsequently, despite surviving an assassination attempt through poisoning, Kinity had criticized succeeding governments which he says have been a stretch of recycled leadership whose main focus has been to carry on the mantle of looting of public funds, corruption and abuse of human rights as they defend their predecessors
