Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu has been sentenced to seven years in prison, or pay a fine amounting to KSh 53.2 million, after he was found guilty of the fraud case.
Waititu was facing a fraud case involving KSh 588 million during his tenure as the county governor, along aside his wife Susan Ndung’u and six other accused.
Delivering the ruling on Thursday, February 13, at Milimani Law Courts, Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki also barred Waititu for holding any public office for a period of 10 years.
“For the second accused person, a fine of KSh 500,00 or default to serve 12 months imprisonment, for the second accused person Susan Wangari Ndung’u, that is the only sentence for Susan,” Nzioki stated.
Waititu has also been barred from holding a political seat for the 10 years. His wife was also sentenced to one-year imprisonment, or pay a fine of KSh 500,000.

Also among the accused Lucas Wahinya Mwangi who was director roads, was sentenced to a total fine of KSh 21 million, or serve seven years of imprisonment.
The accused will be held at the Industrial Prison, while Ndung’u, Ex-governor’s wife bail processing is reviewed according to the Chief Magistrate directives.
However, his lawyer Danstan Omari said his client shall sought an appeal in the High Court following the judgement.
Earlier, Waititu had linked the cases to a political manhunt, for supporting the then deputy president William Ruto in the August 2022 general elections.
“”It was a scheme. This was a political manhunt. The case was initiated to kick me out of the Kiambu governor’s office. They succeeded because when I was charged, one of the conditions of my bail was that I should not return to the office,” he earlier stated.
