Elizabeth Anyango Odaga, the founder of the Change Africa Foundation, is ramping up her efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, where she aims to represent Siaya County as Woman Representative.
Renowned for her work in community development and advocacy for women’s and children’s rights, Elizabeth is currently enhancing her outreach to the six constituencies in the county, with a particular focus on supporting women’s and youth groups.
Her team has been actively participating in various community functions across the country, offering both financial and technical support, all while promoting Elizabeth’s vision of transformative leadership.
A long-time advocate for the vulnerable, Elizabeth who is currently in the UK has had her team travel across Siaya County to engage with local communities. Previously, She has held discussions with numerous women’s and youth groups to understand their needs and ensure that their voices are reflected in her political agenda.
Through her foundation, she has already provided support to over 200 students across the county and empowered countless women, especially those with disabilities.
“I am dedicated to bringing change to Siaya County by focusing on education, healthcare, and creating opportunities for business and empowerment, particularly for women and the youth,” Elizabeth said during a recent meeting with local community leaders. “My leadership will prioritize the needs of marginalized groups and ensure that everyone has access to the opportunities they deserve.”
As the race for Woman Representative in Siaya County begins to take shape, Elizabeth faces competition from several other candidates, including Nominated MCA Dorothy Oinga, West Gem ward MCA Susan Okwiry, Alwala community Executive Director Awino Wagwau, and Dr. Julie Onyango, the former Siaya County CEC for Water. Despite the growing field of contenders, Elizabeth’s established track record in community development and her international experience make her a formidable candidate.
Her foundation’s impact is widely felt across the county. It has been instrumental in building homes for widows, supporting orphans through education, and providing vocational training for women. Elizabeth also established the Siaya County Art Center, which has benefited over 100 local youths.
Beyond her work on the ground, Elizabeth holds a solid academic background, including a Master’s degree in Law, Politics, and Sociology from Cambridge University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling Psychology. She believes that this combination of education and practical experience equips her to address the challenges facing Siaya County.
As the 2027 election draws nearer, Elizabeth Anyango Odaga is emerging as a strong candidate to represent Siaya County’s women, with a clear commitment to bringing sustainable development, equality, and progress to the region. Her focus on empowering youth and women, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, continues to resonate with voters across the county.
It remains uncertain whether the incumbent Woman Representative, Dr. Christine Ombaka, who is serving her third term, will seek a fourth term.
According to sources, Ombaka may instead contest for the Gem constituency MP seat against incumbent Elisha Odhiambo, who previously had a falling-out with the ODM party after aligning with President William Ruto.
With ODM now in government, Elisha may still stand a chance of being nominated by the party to run for a third term.
