Rumours have spread claiming that Djibouti’s Mahamoud Youssouf is stepping down from the African Union Chairmanship race, with speculations that he is backing former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Citizen TV’s Seth Olale on his X, reported that credible sources have confirmed that Mahamoud is expected to address the media concerning the rumours, regarding his withdrawal from the AUC race

“BREAKING: Highly trusted sources indicate that H.E Mahamoud Ali Youssouf is expected to address the press anytime from now,” Olale posted.

Earlier on, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni made a post on social media congratulating Raila Odinga, something that spearheaded the rumours about the Djibouti’s candidate’s withdrawal.

“Gini wasekawo! (This thing we’ve won) Congratulations Babaman,” posted Kioni, with Odinga’s photo.

However, on the contrary, popular blogger and government critic Cyprian Nyakundi has affirmed that the news are not true, saying that they are mere propaganda by the State, devised at popularizing Odinga.

“Mahmoud Ali Youssuf has not stepped down. Propaganda by the state,” said Nyakundi.

According to The Eastleigh Voice, the claims are fake after interviewing undisclosed source to ascertain the credibility of the news.

“This is fake news! Mahmoud is very much committed to staying the course and serving the African continent,” the source confirmed to the media outlet.

Mahmoud is expected to travel to Tanzania tomorrow and later to Senegal in order to bolster support for his AUC dream.

Odinga on the other hand has been actively touring Africa to gather votes ahead of the February polls.
