Bunge La Mwana Nchi Seeks Entrenchment Into the Constitution, Push For Referendum

Like-minded youths and members of People’s Assembly commonly known as Bunge La Mwana Nchi have today February 18,2025 sort under a caucus known as the Third Liberation Movement to push for a referendum.

The Assembly further seeks to be entrenched into the constitution of Kenya, an agenda that is set to be a pro-people and ‘Bunge la Mwananchi’ Centered.

The promoters of this popular initiative are led by Victor Orwa- a member of the Kamkunji-Kibra Bunge La Mwana Nchi, convenor of the caucus & drafter of the Bill, Hagai Thenye Odialo- the National Speaker of Bunge La Mwana Nchi and Michael Odhiambo Achola- a co-convenor of the caucus, a member of the Kibra Bunge La Mwana Nchi & a promoter of the Bill.

The Draft Constitution (amendment) Bill-2025 known as “Bunge La Mwana Nchi Bill” is said to be ready and is being popularised in Bunge La Mwana Nchi branches around Nairobi and further to other parts of the country.

The Bill suggests the introduction of a parliamentary system of governance, entrenchment of the Office of Opposition Leader, People’s Assembly (Bunge La Mwana Nchi), Constituency Decentralised Fund (CDF), Ward Development Fund and Self Employment Fund in the Constitution, among others.

The Bill further suggests a 50/50 gender equality on all appointive and nominative positions, and introduces a “demographic quota system” as a parameter of inclusion of the youth and the relatively young people in public positions of governance.

This, comes at a time when a majority of the political class is said to be capitalizing on numerous number of young people,with energy,skills , innovation to spear ahead their own personal interests at the expense of service delivery and development.

The group in a letter dated Monday, February 17, 2025 wrote to President William Ruto, the leadership of Parliament and Treasury Cabinet Secretary, among other stakeholders is set to be presented today February 18,2025 in a bid to seek their audience for further public participation.
