Authorities at Rongo University are investigating a tragic incident involving the discovery of a newborn baby’s body in a pit latrine at the Blessed Hostels.

According to a police report, the baby was found after a female student reportedly admitted to giving birth and disposing of the infant in the latrine on October 20.

Police retrieved the body following a report from fellow students but confirmed the baby was deceased upon removal.

The mother is currently receiving medical care and is under police custody as investigations continue.

A section of students who spoke to us criticized what happened and urged the need to focus on mental health.

“We criticize what she did, but it’s time we recognize that many students are silently struggling with mental health challenges,” said another student

Many have emphasized the need for better counseling services to address the emotional challenges faced by students.

“The university needs to take steps to establish mental health facilities and strengthen the guidance and counseling department to prevent such incidents.”A student who spoke to this reporter commented.

As police look into potential legal actions, the university administration has yet to make a public statement, but students are urging immediate reforms to prevent such tragedies in the future.
