Siaya Governor James Orengo has responded to a petition by several individuals who claim they were unfairly dismissed from the county’s Health Department, pledging full cooperation with investigations into the matter.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, Governor Orengo confirmed receiving a petition dated September 15, 2025, which has also been tabled before the County Assembly of Siaya. The petitioners allege wrongful dismissal and irregularities in employment within the department.
Orengo urged the County Assembly and Kenya’s criminal justice agencies to conduct thorough investigations, including lifestyle audits of individuals suspected to be behind what he termed as a “callous and criminal enterprise.” He emphasized that those found culpable must face punishment.
“The County Government of Siaya will cooperate fully and abide with, in accordance with the law, each and all recommendations and resolutions made by the County Assembly and other relevant state organs,” Orengo stated.
The Governor noted that the plight of the victims must be addressed, while insisting that only proper procedures—such as public advertisement of jobs, transparent applications, and interviews—should guide appointments in the County Public Service.
He further revealed that allegations of fraud, including possible exchanges of money during appointments, could nullify any disputed employment contracts.
Orengo called on the County Assembly to expedite the hearings and determination of the petition, urging them to resolve the matter within two weeks instead of a month, citing public outrage.
The County Assembly had earlier directed that the Executive should not take any action until the Assembly’s proceedings conclude.
Governor Orengo’s directive now places the County Assembly at the center of resolving one of the most contentious issues currently facing Siaya’s public service.
