Last Journey: Pope Francis Burial Set For Saturday, April 26, 2025

The burial ceremony of Pope Francis who died on April 10, is expected to take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

The ceremony which will take place in front of the Basilica of St. Peter will be presided over by the late Pope’s Eminence, the Most Reverend Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the college of cardinals.

Pope Francis’ body arrived at St. Paul Basilica on Wednesday to lie state ahead of the weekend burial, for a three-day public viewing as per the Catholics tradition that allow them pay their last respect before his burial.

His open wooden coffin was carried by pall bearers from Casa Santa Marta, which was closely followed by a procession of red-robbed cardinals.

The pope who died at 88 years on the Easter Monday due to stroke and heart failure has left behind a remarkable legacy, being at the frontline in promoting kindness, humility and humanity.

Over 135 cardinals have already gathered in Rome for the burial. Among them is Rwanda’s Cardinal Antonie Kambada who will help in organizing the farewell of the historic papacy.

The funeral mass is scheduled to take place on the same day at 10.00am at in St. Peter’s square, led by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re and other clergy from all over the world.

Afterwards, there will be entombment at the Basilica of St. Mary Major, which will mark the commencement of nine days of mourning.

Kenya’s national speaker, Moses Wetangula is also set to leave Kenya tonight to the Rome, to president Ruto who is in China.

” Pope Francis will not only be remembered as a leader, but also as a person who greatly impacted humanity, and as an epitome of humility and kindness.” He said

Our president is out in China, So he nominated me to represent him in Rome, so I’ll be leaving tonight.” He added
