President William Ruto left the country on Tuesday for a four day state visit to China, which has seen the country bag a number of development plans, trade, infrastructure and partnerships agreement between the two nations.
Among the agreement is the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway to Malaba in phase two from Naivasha, as well as the expansion of the Nakuru-Mau Summit-Malaba highway, which will be done in a public private partnership to strengthen the two nations economic ties.
Additionally, Kenya will receive a boost in the education sector especially the Technical and Vocational Educational Training (TVET), which will receive instrument financing for critical equipment, aiding the implementation of the third phase of TVET project.
However, a the move by the president to support the One China policy has irked Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, who said President William Ruto is missing out on the international diplomacy, while trying to impress the world superpowers, which could eventually affect the country’s relations with other countries in future.
The lawmaker also blasted the principal Secretary Korir Singoei, for failing to advise the president on matters international relations.
“Whether we agree with you or not, We only have one Kenya. I can tell you, President Ruto, you are goofing massively in international relations. Your PS Korir Sing’oei is not helping you either,” Amisi wrote.
In a plea to protect the countries diplomatic ties, the Lawmaker asked Ruto to reconsider his stands on matters diplomacy, before Kenya becomes a victim of failed international relations.
“You are losing the country’s peers in a bid to satisfy the world superpowers. Once they are done with you ,Kenya will not have a friend left to run to. Come back to your senses .H.E,” he added.
In a joint statement from a high-level bilateral meeting Kenya confirmed its commitment to One China, which calls for absorption of the republic of Taiwan as part of China, and further lauding the efforts by China to reunite its territory.
“Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. Kenya resolutely opposes any form of ‘Taiwan independence’ and supports all efforts by the Chinese government to achieve national reunification ,” read the joint statement.
Earlier in February, opposition leaders linked the failure of Raila Odinga AUC lose to a strained diplomacy of Kenya and neighboring counties, as well as failed internal relations. Recently, Sudan accused Kenya of interfering with its internal affairs, after their opposition Rapid Support Forces (RFS), hosted a meeting in Nairobi, indicating a strained relation between the two nations.
