Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has directed parliamentary committees to commence the vetting of the 14 Principal Secretary nominees, with each respective committee expected to table its report before the set timeline which is by April 22, 2025.
“The message from His Excellency the President, together with the certificate of presidential nominations, curriculum vitae, and other testimonials of the nominees, now stand referred to the respective departmental committees for approval hearings,” Wetang’ula said.
According to the Speaker, the approval process would adhere strictly to the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, Cap. 7F, and the resolution passed by the House on February 13, that empowers the Speaker to process executive nominations during recess.
Members of the public have also been invited to submit written representations on the suitability of any nominee to the Clerk at Office before the stipulated vetting dates .
The vetting process is scheduled for commencement on April 4, with various committees set to conduct hearings simultaneously.
The Committee on Administration and Internal Security is set to vet Ahmed Abdisalan Ibrahim, nominated for the State Department for National Government Coordination.
Stephen Isaboke, the nominee for the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, to appear before the Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation.
The Education Committee to vet Abdulrazak Shaukat, nominated for the State Department for Science, Research and Innovation whereas the Health Committee to assess Oluga Fredrick Ouma for the State Department for Medical Services.
Committee on Labour to take on Jane Kere Imbunya, nominated for the State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development, while Michael Lenasalon, nominated for the State Department for Devolution, will face the Regional Development Committee.
Carren Ageng’o Achieng, for the State Department for Children Welfare Services,Cyrell Odede Wagunda, for the State Department for Public Investments and Assets Management, Boniface Makokha for the State Department for Economic Planning.
Fikirini Katoi Kahindi, to be vetted for the State Department for Youth Affairs, Regina Akoth Ombam, for the State Department for Trade.
Committee on Defence, Intelligence & Foreign Relations will on April 7, 2025 vet Caroline Wanjiru Karugu who was nominated to head the State Department for East African Community Affairs while the Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs will engage Judith Nayaiai Pareno, for the Justice, Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs docket.
Wetangula has also asked the public to take note of the hearing dates in line with Article 118(1)(b) of the Constitution, stating that it is open for public participation.
