Amid the rising political temperatures in the country, 2027 Webuye West Constituency MP hopeful Joseph Lendrix Waswa has urged the incumbent MP Dan Wanyama to steer clear of divisive and ethnic politics, warning that such practices hinder development in the cosmopolitan constituency.
Speaking during the funeral service of the late Bishop Aggrey Watongo at Savannah Village in Misikhu Ward on Saturday, Waswa emphasized the importance of unity in fostering progress. He cautioned leaders against using inflammatory language, which he said could derail the constituency’s aspirations for development.
“I call on all leaders to shun ethnic and divisive politics that could hold back our cosmopolitan constituency from realizing its full potential. Let us work towards uniting our people and focusing on development,” said Waswa.
The aspirant also outlined his plans to address food insecurity in Webuye West, a constituency largely dependent on agriculture. He announced an initiative to procure farm inputs for over 8,000 vulnerable farmers, a move he believes will boost food production and eliminate hunger.

“Agriculture is the backbone of our economy. This program will ensure our people have plenty of food in their stores and are free from hunger,” he added.
Waswa’s remarks come at a time when the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has raised alarm over an increase in hate speech among political leaders. NCIC Vice Chairperson Wambui Nyutu recently disclosed that investigations into hate speech allegations involving over 10 politicians, including Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, have been completed and forwarded to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“We have completed investigations against several lawmakers, including Dan Wanyama, Farah Maalim, and Oscar Sudi. Their files have been forwarded to the DCI, and we urge swift action to arrest and prosecute these individuals to ensure justice and cohesion,” said Nyutu during a press briefing.
The NCIC has warned that hate speech, especially on social media, poses a significant threat to national unity, urging lawmakers to exercise caution in their political rhetoric.
In Webuye West politics, Lendrix Waswa urged Dan Wanyama to stop labeling him as ‘Mzaliwa’ but focus on delivering for the electorate. Meanwhile, Waswa’s stance against divisive politics and his focus on agriculture resonate with the needs of the residents of Webuye West locals whose main economic activity is crop farming.
At the same time, Lendrix Waswa has embarked on a series of development projects across all the wards of Webuye West Constituency. Through his Joseph Lendrix Waswa Foundation, the MP hopeful is slowly transforming the lives of Webuye West residents by empowering transport operators (Bodaboda), promoting agriculture, prioritizing education by paying school fees for the less fortunate but bright students and talent development among the youth.
