Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has sued activist Morara Kebaso over a defamation statement he made on his X account, that allegedly tarnished the MP’s reputation.

Morara has been directed by the Eldoret magistrate court to appear within 15 days, upon receipt of the notice.

The activist is required to appear before the court after Sudi, on December 28, 2024 demanded an apology from Morara, failure to which they warned of a legal action, within three days.

Morara on January 22, 2024, reacted on activist Kasmuel McOure’s meeting with Oscar Sudi during a function in Eldoret, where McOure also met President William Ruto. Morara was surprised to see McOure meeting with people he termed as the ‘same people who killed GenZs in cold blood.’

“Oh My God. Kasmuel Why? Whhhhyyyy? Aren’t these the same people who killed GenZs in cold blood and benefited from it. Why? Is it money? Si ungeanza any biz we support you?” Morara posted.

In the letter that the MP’s lawyers sent to Morara demanding an apology, claimed that Sudi’s reputation was stained as he was called a murderer and a profiteer of political financial gains.

“By referring to “these same people” and juxtaposing Hon. Sudi’s image alongside the phrase “killed Gen Z in cold blood and benefitted from it”, you expressly or by innuendo portrayed our client as a murderer, profiteer who exploited tragedies for personal financial gain, a dishonest leader and a corrupt associate,” the statement read in part.

The lawyers accused Morara of making reckless statements without verifying facts while knowing very well their implications on the MP.

“Your publication was reckless and irresponsible considering your substantial audience /followers of over 284,000 followers on X platform. The harm caused to our client’s reputation cannot be overstated,” the statement further read.

Morara did not act in accordance with the lawyers’ demands that required him to apologize and admit to liability caused within the three days, therefore, attracting this legal action.

“Take notice that unless we hear from you on the above within three days of receipt of this letter, we have mandatory instructions to institute relevant legal proceedings against you in the protection of our client’s interests without any further reference to you and at all times holding you liable for the costs hereby incurred and attendant consequences arising therefrom,” Sudi’s lawyers warned.

However, Morara while reacting to the court summon, questioned why it is only done in Eldoret, insinuating a hidden agenda.

“Why Eldoret? What do you know that I don’t know?” he questioned.
