6th KUPAA Nyanza Region Drama, Music, and Film Festival Wraps Up at Rongo University

The 6th edition of the Kenya Universities Performing Arts Association (KUPAA) Drama, Music, and Film Festival for the Nyanza Region concluded today at Rongo University, marking the end of a two-day celebration of creativity and talent.

The festival, which began on October 19, brought together students from universities across Nyanza.This year’s theme, “Embracing Performing Arts for Social and Behaviour Change,” highlighted the role of the arts in addressing social issues and fostering positive change.

Mr.Caleb Nyang’wono, the Head of Games and Department at Rongo University and coordinator of the event, emphasized the significance of using the arts to engage students meaningfully. “Performing arts provide a unique platform for students to express themselves while also addressing critical societal issues. This festival is a testament to the power of art in promoting behavior change,” Nyang’wono said.

The festival featured thought-provoking plays, musical performances, spoken word, and short films, with each presentation aligned with the theme.“The performances have been inspiring. It’s incredible to see how students are using their talents to communicate messages that matter to our communities,” said Mary Wanjohi, a journalist and attendee at the event.

Participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to showcase their talents and engage with important themes. “This festival has allowed us to use our creativity to make a difference. It’s an experience I’ll always cherish,” said Mursoi,participant from Rongo University.

The 6th KUPAA Nyanza Region Festival provided a platform for students to connect, perform, and reflect on how the arts can be used to spark positive behavior change. Organizers expressed hope that the next edition would build on the success of this year’s event, with a continued focus on using art as a tool for social impact.
