67th Grammy Awards in the US: Standing in the Hall of Fame

The long-awaited 67th Annual Grammy Awards took place yesterday on Feb 2, 2025 in its 22nd year at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, hosted by the south African Comedian, Trevor Noah for the fifth consecutive time.

The ceremony honored the best recording compositions, and artists from September 16, 2023 to August 30, 2024, as selected by members of Recording Academy. The ceremony was broadcasted on CBS but was also available on Paramount+, and the Nomimations were announced through a youtube livestream on November 8, 2024.

The first round voting took place from October 4 to October 15, 2024 and some of the nominated artists include; Beyonce, who received most of the nominations therefore making her the most nominated artist in Grammy artist and tying the position with her husband Jay-Z; Taylor Swift who earned career nominations for album of the year; former US president Jimmy Carter who was the oldest nominee, nominated for best Audio book & Storytelling Recording; Sabrina Carpenter; Post Malone; Charli XCX; Chappell Roan among others.

The following were records of the year, Now and Then by the Beatles; Texas Hold ‘Em by Beyonce; Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter; 360 by Charlie XCX; Birds of a feather by Billie Eilish; Not like us by Kendrick Lamar; Good luck babe by Chappell Roan; Fortnight by Taylor Swift featuring Post Malone. Album of the year were, New Blue Sun by Andree’ 3000; Cowboy Carter by Beyonce; Short n’ sweet by Sabrina Carpenter; Brat by Charlie XCX; Djesse Vol 4 by Jacob collier; Hit me hard and soft by Billie Eilish; The Rise and Fall of a Mid west princess by Chappell Roan; The tortured poet departments by Taylor Swift.

Best producers of the year were, Dan Nigro who produced The rise and fall of a Midwest princess by Chappel Roan among others; Alissia who produced Spend the night by Coco Jones among others; Ian Fitchuk who produced Amen by Beyonce among others; Mustard who produced Faith of a mustard seed by Mustard among others; Raye who produced Ask and you shall receive by Rita ora, Because I love you by Halle, You’re Hired by Ayra Star ft Neiked among others.

Doechii joined Lauryn Hill and Cardi B as the only female rappers to win best Rap Album at the Grammys, Chappel Roan was the new best artist, and Beyonce became the first black woman to win a Grammys award in the country music category for over 50 years after people highly jammed to her last year’s release, Texas Hold ‘.

” I know there’s some black girl, so many black women watching me right now. And I wanna tell you, you can do it. Anything is possible. Don’t allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you.” Doechii said emotionally after being called to receive her first award.

Netizens expressed their dissatisfaction in regards to Beyonce’s incessant receive of awards, most of them believed that she only got the awards because of her husband’s influence. They also questioned how Doechii was able to receive an award for best rap album and a legend like Nicki Minaj had never received any.
