Days after his election to succeed Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as the Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairperson, Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi made his first public appearance in the constituency on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

Speaking at Siaya Township Secondary School during the official launch of the 2025 NG-CDF bursaries, the lawmaker announced that all form four day school students in Alego Usonga will receive a Ksh. 5,000 bursary.

According to Atandi, the move aims to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians as the candidates prepare for their national exams later this year.

“To ease the financial burden on parents and guardians, my office will provide a Ksh. 5,000 bursary to all Form Four students across the constituency,” he said.

The MP also announced a reduction in school fees for all day secondary schools from the current Ksh. 15,000 to Ksh. 11,000.

Additionally, he introduced a meal subsidy program to ensure students remain focused during school hours.

Atandi stated that these measures were reached after extensive consultations with day school principals in Alego Usonga constituency. The goal, he noted, is to promote inclusive, quality, and accessible education for all students.

The lawmaker was accompanied by Nominated MCA Rose Rabinya, Alex Dunga, the KNUT Executive Secretary, Hon. Alice Odhiambo among other leaders

Atandi was elected unopposed last Wednesday as the Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee.

The second-term lawmaker was the only candidate who had submitted nomination papers by the deadline.
