Today, on October 25, 2024, Siaya County Inter-Faith leaders strongly condemned the increasing incidents of extrajudicial killings, abductions, and unlawful arrests in the country, urging security agencies to bring an end to the violence.
Led by Bishop Elias Ouma Sewe, Chairman of the Ugunja Sub-County Inter-Faith group, the leaders expressed their deep disappointment with the country’s security forces, emphasizing the pain suffered by families who have lost loved ones to these violent acts.
“These horrific killings of innocent people must stop. We have a 2010 Constitution that upholds our rights to freedom and peace. We cannot live in constant fear, as if we are in South Sudan,” Bishop Sewe stated, calling on security agencies to act promptly.
His appeal followed the discovery of Wells Fargo HR Manager Willis Ayieko’s body near a river in Nyamninia, Gem Sub-County. Sewe urged authorities to expedite investigations and bring those responsible for Ayieko’s death to justice.
During the media address about the rising cases of extrajudicial killings and abductions, Siaya Inter-Faith member Beatrice Awich also expressed the sorrow mothers endure, knowing their children fall victim to such brutal violence.
“As mothers, it’s heartbreaking to see our children lost to violence. We urgently call on the government to end these extrajudicial killings,” she said.
The leaders’ collective outcry drew attention to the growing insecurity in Siaya County, particularly following similar tragic events in River Nyamninia and River Yala. They called for immediate measures to restore safety and ensure justice for victims.
