President William Ruto has this morning jetted out of the country for a one-day official visit to Kampala
The head of state, according to State house spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, will attend the African Union (AU) Extraordinary Summit on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).
The CAADP initiative, a core component of the AU’s Agenda 2063, focuses on eradicating hunger and poverty through agriculture-led development while transforming Africa’s agri-food systems.
The summit will assess progress toward achieving the program’s targets and adopt the Kampala Declaration, which outlines a shared vision for transforming agricultural systems in Africa from 2026 to 2035.
Ruto is expected to highlight Kenya’s commitment to agricultural transformation, showcasing efforts to enhance food security, reduce poverty, create jobs and promote sustainable growth.
He will emphasize the alignment of CAADP with Kenya Kwanza’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and Vision 2030.
The President is also scheduled to hold discussions with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and other regional leaders.
The bilateral talks will address regional priorities and seek consensus on advancing Africa’s reform agenda with the visit providing a platform for President Ruto to drum up support for former his role as Champion of AU Institutional Reforms, ahead of his inaugural progress report on the reform agenda.
The summit’s outcomes are expected to shape policies that bolster economic growth and food security across the continent.
