Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, while speaking during an interview with Mulembe, Vuuka and Sulwe radio stations today, has revealed that President William Ruto offered him money so that he could resign.

Gachagua claimed that Ruto offered to pay him Ksh. 2 billion to resign from his Deputy President position. Additionally, he was promised proper security detail and good remuneration if he willingly resigned. On the same, Gachagua could also run in a political office in the future if he agreed to the deal with Ruto.

“The President asked me to step down, promising Ksh. 2 billion to retire comfortably, with proper security and remuneration. He suggested that I could consider running for political office in the future,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua seemingly did not agree to the deal which prompted his unceremonious impeachment by the Senate last year, after some of the charges pressed against him were substantiated.

After the Senate ouster, he went ahead and tabled his appeal before the High Court, which consequently upheld the Senate’s ruling.

Gachagua lost his DP seat to the then Cabinet Secretary for Interior Prof. Kithure Kindiki who was appointed the DP, fully approved by the Parliament and henceforth sworn in as the next DP.

Since the ouster, Gachagua has been criticizing the government and sending salvos, with hopes of a political comeback. He is currently teaming up with other leaders including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of 2027 general polls.

Gachagua whose aim is to make Ruto a one-term President, said, during the interview, that Ruto has lost Mt. Kenya support and is currently trying to win it back.

“Mt. Kenya is gone. The President is now seeking support from Mt. Elgon. My only mistake was uniting my people,” he asserted.

He urged the Western region to race behind his back, in a bid to unite Kenyans while also seeking support from the youths.

“Gen Z lacks leadership, and if they accept me as their leader, I would be honored to take on that mandate,” he urged.
