Police in Kiambaa, Kiambu County, are investigating the murder of 19-year-old Sharon Atieno after her mutilated body was found on Friday, November 8, 2024 in a banana plantation.
Detectives have started operations to investigate on what might have transpired that led to the death of Sharon.
Kiambaa OCPD, Pius Mwathi confirmed that they are analysing phone calls and other essential investigating procedures to give leads on incidence.
“We are analyzing forensically the phone and other essential investigation leads, and at the moment, the matter is under investigation,” Kiambaa OCPD Pius Mwathi said.
According to reports, Sharon alias Nicole was killed hours after leaving her house, while she was taking a walk.
Reports claim that Sharon left her residence at 10 p.m. on Thursday to make a phone call, leaving her roommate behind.
Shallet Vudembu, her friend said that she tried to reach her but to no avail and later found her on a banana plantation in Gachorwe village, Kiambaa.
Narrating the ordeal, Shallet revealed that Sharon’s mother also passed in the same month, as Sharon opened to her, a day before she was found dead.
“The previous day alikuwa ananiambia the mother passed at a time like this and it was the worst month for her because it’s the same month mamake alipass. That’s the only problem nlikua najua ako nayo,” said Vudembu.
The owner of the banana plantation, Fredrick Njiraini Kimani, affirmed that when he found Sharon, he discovered that she wasn’t breathing and had already been killed.
“Kuja kuangalia, nikakuja nikatazama msichana nikapata hakuna mahali anahema, nikapata ashauliwa,” Kimani explained.
The body will undergo autopsy on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, to uncover what might have killed the girl.
Sharon’s family are hopeful that justice will prevail and perpetrators brought to book. Led by her uncle Michael Olewe, the family is asking the criminal investigations department to do their and unravel what led to the demise of their daughter.
“Sasa tunaomba tu kama haki itapatikana, sasa tumewachia DCI,” Michael Olewe said.
The country is experiencing abductions, torture and killings. It is claimed that over 97 femicide cases have been reported to the government.
