Detectives investigating the gruesome murder of a woman whose mutilated body was discovered at Lang’ata Cemetery on October 31, 2024, have arrested another suspect, Jared Mong’are, in connection with the case.
Mong’are, who was located and apprehended in Eldoret after evading authorities, is believed to have played a key role in the crime, handling all financial transactions related to the victim’s stay at a Lavington apartment complex.
The investigation has unearthed several crucial pieces of evidence, including a blood-stained panga, which is believed to be the murder weapon, and the Toyota Vitz used to transport the victim and suspect to the apartment. The vehicle, registered under number KDD 737Q, was recovered in Ngara and has been towed to the DCI headquarters for forensic analysis.
According to investigators, the suspect was not only involved in booking the victim’s stay at the Lavington Valley Heights apartment but also drove the victim and her alleged killer, Hashim Dagane Muhumed, to the location. CCTV footage captured Muhumed leaving the apartment with the victim on October 31, just hours before the woman’s body was discovered.
The apartment, operated as an Airbnb by Kilimani businesswoman Alice Mbinya, was subleased by Mbinya from the owner, who had recently issued a notice of a rent increase, prompting Mbinya to move out her belongings on November 1, a day after the crime. During an interview with detectives, Mbinya revealed that some of her items, including a handbag, were transported to her Kilimani residence, where a search uncovered a handbag believed to belong to the victim.
The investigation then led authorities to a second location in Gatundu, where more evidence was found, including another blood-stained panga and items matching those discovered at the crime scene. Authorities noted that the suspect had attempted to clean up the bloodstains, though not thoroughly, suggesting a rushed attempt to cover up the crime.
In a further development, detectives discovered that the prime suspect, Muhumed, had been using the victim’s mobile phone to contact her family members in the days following her disappearance. A forensic trail of his communications led investigators back to Lang’ata Cemetery, where they discovered the victim’s clothing and another phone stashed in a bag near the crime scene.
The DCI has assured the public that they remain committed to ensuring justice is served, as the investigation continues. With the recent arrest of Mong’are and the growing body of evidence, authorities are confident that they are closer to solving the case and bringing those responsible to justice.
