Former President of the Law Society of Kenya, Nelson Havi has revealed why Kenyans are against the anticipated nationwide vaccination of cattle that was announced by President William Ruto.
Havi, while analysing over this matter that has caused public outcry and criticisms, outlined that it is the trust that Kenyans have lost from the Government, that propel them to reject the proposed vaccination. The ex LSK President highlighted the issue where the Government supplied fake fertilisers to farmers, as a cause for this outrageous criticism.
“Farmers have not said vaccines for cattle are bad. No. They have a legitimate trust deficit with the Government of Kenya. The mistrust is well founded. The Government allowed fake seeds and fertilizer to be sold to farmers. How can farmers trust Government vaccines for cattle?” Said Havi.
However, the President has defended the vaccination exercise that is expected to be conducted in January next year. While speaking earlier today during an annual Kimalel Goat Auction in Baringo, Ruto scolded politicians opposing the exercise, saying they involve in cheap talks without giving solutions.
“We ask leaders who have no understanding, no knowledge, no plan to spare us their ignorance. They can’t continue to use propaganda and disinformation to deny Kenyans international markets by discouraging disease control. Wanataka umaskini iendelee Kenya,” he said.
He went further affirming that human beings have been vaccinated yet there has been no complications, therefore, he questioned why the same face opposition when it turns to be done to animals.
“Chanjo inafanywa hata ya binadamu. Surely, if it is not dangerous to vaccinate people why is it dangerous to vaccinate animals?” he posed.
The President assured that the vaccination is all about preventing animal diseases and improving international market for their products.
“Ati itazuia ng’ombe kunyamba. What kind of nonsense are we engaging in? Give us a break. Wewe ulisikia wapi? I am speaking to you as a scientist, vaccination is about disease control,” heightened Ruto.
The exercise which the President announced in November 8, 2024 during a Maa Cultural Festival held in Samburu, is expected to vaccinate 22 million cattle and 50 million goats and sheep.
