Moses Kuria Now Warns MPs Dishing out TSC letters at Funerals,Rallies

Statehouse senior advisor in the council of economic advisors Hon. Moses Kuria has raised a concern on the sad state of affairs at the Teachers Service Commission where politicians are seen in funerals and rallies issuing TSC employment forms.

“There are several great ideas to destroy a nation, but the most glittering of recent times is politicians parading teachers’ employment forms in public rallies and funerals.”

While speaking through a post on his official x account, the former CS cited that the country could be heading in a dangerous trajectory highlighting that as those who were products of great teachers, handing out TSC forms at public meeting could make the country sink to a really bad state.

Kuria’s statements come amidst speculations and allegations of illegal hirings involving politicians where the Members of parliament allied to the government are given TSC employment letters to give their constituents.

With the high rate of unemployment with a large number of graduates , teachers included but the connection factor missing are left out of deserving opportunities while politicians are allegedly taking charge of the hiring process.

Teachers unions on the other hand has raised eyebrows on the issue stating that the actions of the politicians are denying deserving Kenyans employments and is against the law.

Reports indicate that the number of unemployed trained teachers has been rising steadily since 1998, when the then government changed its teacher recruitment policy from supply to demand driven in a bid to rein in the ballooning national wage bill.

In 2018, TSC chief executive Nancy Macharia confirmed that more than 290,000 trained teachers were unemployed, some of which had been trained from 2008.

Three years later,Kenya’s unemployment rate grew further with more than 300,000 currently qualified and TSC registered, yet to be absorbed into the public service.

The bulk of the unemployed teachers is a dire cause of alarm that ought to be addressed as soon as possible.
