Ministry of Health in conjunction with the Ugandan health ministry is set to hold a four-day Cross-Border Malaria Initiative meeting attended by stakeholders from both countries starting today April,2,2025 till April,4,2025 in Busia County.

The joint meeting which started today aims to strengthen malaria control and further elimination efforts highlighting the need for coordinated action against the parasitic disease which has been since time immemorial, a persistent public health challenge in the region.

Kenya is represented by key stakeholders in the medical fraternity ;Dr. Joseph Lenai, Director of Primary Healthcare, and Senior Deputy Secretary Mr. Mawira Mungania, along with technical officers from the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP).

To be present and participating in the four-day meeting is Uganda’s National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP) team, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to tackling cross-border malaria transmission.

With mosquitoes crossing borders freely, delegates from both countries are advocating for harmonized malaria interventions strategies ,enhancing surveillance measures, data sharing and resource mobilization to improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment in border areas.

This dire initiative comes at a time when the Health ministry is almost in shackles due to the failures of Social Health Authority (SHA) with Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today chairing a meeting with the senior management of the Ministry,to help focus on the strategic priorities to strengthen healthcare .

The Cabinet Secretary while speaking to the workers , emphasized the importance of putting national interests first, reaffirming that healthcare remains a key pillar of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Hon. Duale further emphasized the need for efficiency, accountability, and integrity in managing health resources, calling for strict adherence to constitutional and legal frameworks, including relevant laws and legal notices, to ensure effective governance in the health sector.
