Insider Reveals How Kisumu County will Spend 3.1 Billion for Development Projects

Kisumu County Government will spend a whopping sh3.1billion during the financial year 2024 and 2025 towards the implementation of various departmental development projects baptized “Mwananchi Projects” The Nyanza Review has established from a reliable source.

Out of the total development amount, the department of education, technical training, innovation and social services has been allocated sh213.7million in the development vote to undertake the construction and completion of all early childhood development education centers in the city’s 35 administrative wards, construction and renovation of technical and vocational education training centers, construction and completion of social Halls as well as the capitation of TVET institutions across the county.

In addition, the county government of Kisumu has as well allocated an extra sh205millon that would be spent on education bursary and scholarships as well as the feeding program and early childhood development capitation.

The source further states that the City of Kisumu Department has on its part been allocated a total of sh476.7million in the development vote to undertake the Repair and Maintenance of street lights and floodlights, improvement of Nyamasaria Bus Park, Roads and Drainage works within the city, completion of Rota Bridge in Kisumu West, Repair and Replacement of drainage slabs within the city, purchase and installation of three in one segregation litter bins within the city and finally the improvement of roads within the city.

The County Assembly of Kisumu Department on its part has been allocated a total of sh. 100million in the development vote to undertake the construction of the County Assembly building.

The department of public service, County Administration and Participatory development office of the Governor has been allocated a total of sh. 35 million in the development vote to undertake the construction of the ward offices and the completion of the same. This allocation has come at the right time considering that the Members of the County Assembly are currently operating from rented premises which are too expensive in terms of monthly rent.

Other departments that have been allocated with development kitty include Sports, Culture, Gender and Youth Affairs that have been allocated sh43.5million, Medical services, Public Health and Sanitation sh123.6million for the construction, completion and improvement of health centers. The department has also received an additional sh. 40million in the recurrent budget is for medical insurance scheme (Marwa).

The department of water, environment, natural resources and climate change sh615.4million, Finance, Economic Planning and ICT services sh1,023, 603,602 for payment of pending bills and Lakefront Development Corporation being allocated sh100million.

The department of Trade, Tourism, Industry and marketing allocated sh174.2million for the construction, completion and improvement of markets, construction completion of ablution blocks in the markets, stone crusher machine for Tido Youth Group as well as the supply of solar lights.
