A family in Kasule village in Kolua Central, Kisumu County was left with no home after the raging floods terrified their house.
According to the victim, Angelyne Akoth the house collapsed on Thursday night last week due to the heavy rains, leaving them stranded with nowhere to shelter.
Akoth who spoke to The Nyanza Review, said that since the incidence, they have been staying with neighbours, who have provided them with a temporary place to shelter.
The mother of five, mentioned that their house collapsed around 9 p.m. on Thursday night, and fortunately, no one was injured.
“My house collapsed on Thursday night at around 9 p.m. We managed to walk out safely, no one was injured, but I’m now stranded with my husband and five kids,” she said.
Akoth went ahead to confirm that life has never been easy with her and family as her husband, Steve Otieno Guya has been sick for a long time, an health issue that started in 2019. His condition deteriorated three years later, detering him from providing for his family.
“It all started back in 2019, but he could still manage to go to work. However, since 2022, he has been unable to work due to his condition worsening. I’m now in charge of everything in the house,” she said.
Now left with no alternative, Akoth is appealing for support from well wishers and the county government to help her family secure a roof over their head and other needs. Additionally, the family is unable to pay school fees for their daughter, who did her KCPE last year.
“My daughter did her KCPE last year but did not manage to join high school or TVET due to a lack of school fees. I’m requesting any support from our leaders, including the area MP, MCA, and any well-wishers,” she stated.
Mr. Otieno Guya also used the opportunity to seek help from well-wishers.
“I am the husband of Angelyne. I have been sick for a while and can’t go to work. I’m requesting any well-wishers to assist me with donations, be it food or any support; I will appreciate it,” he said.
Confirming the plight of the family, Rebecca, a neighbour, said that the family has been struggling since the husband started ailing. She added that if any well-wisher can help them construct a house where they can shelter, it would be helpful, especially since the local leaders have neglected them.
“Our local leaders have neglected the issue of this family. The struggles started when the husband’s condition worsened. We are requesting any well-wishers to support the family.”
Efforts by The Nyanza Review to reach the area Mp were all in vain. He was neither responding to messages nor calls.
