Recently impeached Deputy President Hon. Rigathi Gachagua has been reportedly summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over his recent remarks.
On 20th October 2024 while the country was commemorating her Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kwale, Gachagua upon released from Karen hospital, said that there has been a ploy to have him assassinated.
He was quoted, “On August 30th, in Kisumu, undercover security agents bugged my room and one of them attempted to poison my food. However, we detected it and managed to escape the scheme.’’
The impeached DP did stop at that. He continued his allegations that there was also another attempt to have him dead, through the same food poisoning while he had a meeting in Nyeri.
He said, “On September 3rd, in Nyeri, a team from the National Intelligence Service tried to poison food intended for me and the Kikuyu Council of Elders. Then came the impeachment after two failed attempts to assassinate me through food poisoning.”
Concerning these remarks, the DCI has reportedly asked him to appear before its headquarters to record a statement since the allegations are hefty and cannot be taken lightly.
Gachagua is therefore, as according to the statement released by the investigations body, required to report tomorrow, 22nd October 2024, in order to give detailed information concerning his allegations to aid in investigations.
“These are serious allegations emanating from a person of your stature and cannot be taken lightly. In light of seriousness of this matter, we kindly request your presence on 22nd October 2024 at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters, Mazingira Complex, Kiambu Road, to formally record your statement to enable prompt and thorough investigations into the matter, “ read part of the DCI statement.
Gachagua was impeached by the Senate about four days ago while he was at the Karen hospital after picking an illness while going to take his notes to defend himself before the Senate. He had been accused of eleven charges.
Shortly after he was released from the hospital, he also begged President William Ruto to have mercy on his family and let him be, suggesting that the President has a hand in his woes.
“Please, Mr. President, I beg you, don’t kill us or my children. We are a simple and small family; let us be. You have caused me enough pain; allow me to have my peace,” said Gachagua.
