Chinese – owned mega shop China Square has made its entry into Western Kenya with the official opening of the first branch in Kisumu.
The store, which has been established in Kisumu”s Mega City Mall, aims to utilize the profitable market in western Kenya by offering a wide range of affordable products.
The launch represents a major success for China Square as it continues to grow in Kenya.
In an exclusive interview with The Nyanza Review, Mr. Lei Cheng, the CEO of China Square, expressed his excitement about expanding to Kisumu.
“We have been serving Nairobi for some time and requests from Kisumu have been strong. Today, we’re happy to offer customers in Kisumu the convenience of shopping closer to home,” he said.
The new store offers an extensive range of products, including household goods, electronics, fashion, and accessories.
Mr Cheng Lei emphasized that the Kisumu branch not only brings affordable prices but also supports the local economy by creating jobs and sourcing products from local artisans and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs).
“Initially, we imported 90% of our products, but we’ve reduced that to 60% by working with local jua kali artisans and manufacturers. This partnership encourages local production while offering unique, affordable products,” he stated.
The Kisumu branch is part of the company’s plan to expand its presence in Kenya with plans underway to stretch to Mombasa, Nakuru, and Eldoret.
