“I have had an opportunity to serve under all presidents of Kenya since independence, I have seen the government of the founding further Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Moi’s, Kibaki’s, Uhuru’s government, and Ruto’s. May be your government is the last I will serve and then go back to Khwisero,” Atwoli stated.
Atwoli has been the SG of COTU since 2001 when he was elected, but has equally served under different unions making COTU 1967, and is currently serving as a board member in the Social Health Authority (SHA).
However, Atwoli did not fail comment on the country’s political state, congratulating ODM leader Raila Odinga for putting the country first and uniting with the government under the Joint-Framework, that puts Kenyans plights first.
“Lets be patriotic, I want to thank Raila Odinga, working with the government is not compromising ones principles, this country is bigger than anyone. I am appealing to Kenyans to come together and protect our country,” he stated.
He further slammed former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala for for using children for his political theatrics, after the Butere Girls’ incident in Nakuru on Wednesday, April 9, where students were police threw teargas at the students.
“I want to ask us politicians to not mix politics and our young children, lets leave the children to study. If you want to do politics do it with adults, lets not involve our children,” he stated.
The Butere Girls controversial play Echoes of War has been the talk of politics, with politicians from different political divides condemning the issue, which has attracted national attention.
Creatives blasted the government for interfering with the creative space, as art is a form of expression that is fully documented in the country’s constitution.
