Residents of Ahero in Kisumu County are celebrating after a well wisher, Benard Mbeya alias Wuod Ahero Nyando rebuilt a bridge, that had been swept away by the raging floods.

The bridge that connects Ahero town from Karanda School, just next to the Bank Building, was swept away some months back, affecting the Ahero business sector.

While speaking to The Nyanza Review, Tom Oginga, Deputy Chairman of Bodaboda in Ahero town, explained that the broken bridge led to several accidents and even resulting to fatalities. However, they are now happy with what Mbeya has done and are very grateful, as this will limit accident cases and bolster business activities.

“Thank you to our well-wisher this bridge has led to several accidents and even death as the Deputy Chairman Bodaboda I’m happy that accidents will decrease as business will move smoothly,” he said.

Jackline Achok, Chairlady of women traders in Ahero town, thanked Mbeya and explained that business will now progress well now that transportation has become much easier. She further explained that since they depend on business as their main source of income, they were worried about paying bills. But now, after the rebuilding of the bridge, they are happy and believe that business will be good.

Benard Mbeya asserted that his main agenda to revitalize the bridge is to help business back to its feet following the collapse of the bridge. He also assured that he is going to seek further consultations with the county government to provide a permanent solution affecting business people in the town.

” I was not happy by the condition of Ahero town as business sector was majorly affected and more accidents were being witnessed yet Ahero is number 2 in Kisumu County in terms of revenue collection,” he said.

He also promised Ahero traders that he would soon initiate a program to clean up the market to ensure cleanliness and also provide job opportunities for youths and women.
