Kenyan human rights activist Dr. Isaac Newton Kinity has warned that the country is sliding towards a political and humanitarian crisis, accusing President William Ruto’s administration of presiding over abductions, systemic corruption and a looming electoral threat that could destabilize the nation ahead of the 2027 polls.

The former secretary general of the Kenya Civil Servants Union, said that Kenyans have endured fear and torture since Ruto took office in 2022.

Kinity, in a public post on his social media platforms, in a rare show of events, applauded the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua for echoing his sentiments about the ‘state – sponsored abductions’

“Gachagua’s admission confirms what we told the world, Kenyans are being silenced through fear. Our people need international friends because they are dealing with a regime that uses force against the hungry and the suffering.” Reads part of his post

Dr. Kinity first appealed to the international community in January this year to intervene over what he called state-sponsored abductions, something that the former deputy head of state alluded to during his visit to the US

Kinity said the abductions are only part of a wider crisis, with corruption “bleeding the economy” of an estimated KSh 2 billion ($15 million) every day.

He believes that a fearless and honest president could end graft within two years, boost wages for low-paid soldiers and civil servants, and address the high level of unemployment in the country.

“The recycling of leaders who have looted for decades is Kenya’s biggest obstacle,” he said, adding that unless those at the top are prosecuted and the billions they stole abroad are brought back, Kenya will remain in economic captivity.

Kinity’s sharpest warning, however, is about the 2027 presidential race. He criticized the transfer of the government seal — a constitutional instrument safeguarding the integrity of state processes, including elections — from the Attorney General’s independent office to the presidency.

He said placing the seal in Ruto’s custody gives the president sweeping powers over the electoral commission and the outcome of the next election.

“With the seal in his hands, the entire process will be under him. Yet he will be on the ballot, no nation can survive when the fairness of its elections is surrendered to a candidate’s desk. The lives of millions could be at stake.”Kinity warned
