Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has asked Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance leader Raila Odinga to take the opportunity as the leader of Majority in the National Assembly.
According to Salasya, Raila should impeach the speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula, and let his Alliance assume the leadership of the 13th August House. He further said that the move will help him correct his misses.
“To Hon. Raila Odinga, seize this golden opportunity! impeach Speaker Wetang’ula and assert majority in parliament. This will help you to correct past missteps and maybe earn the gratitude of Kenyans,” Salasya stated.
The lawmaker’s sentiments come after an anticipation by Moses Kuria, of the leadership of the National Assembly is set to be taken by the Azimio La Umoja in his controversial post that sparked debate on Sunday, February 15.
The High Court nullified Wetang’ula’s declaration that Kenya Kwanza Alliance is the Majority party in the National Assembly, in October 22, 2022, while Azimio La Umoja as the Minority party. However, Wetang’ula said that the High Court cannot decide the Majority in Parliament.
The future of the 13th August House is in Limbo, as the two political outfits continue to contest on who is the Majority and Minority, with the return of Raila from the African Union (AU) contest, which ended in the favour of Djibouti candidate Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
When the session resumed, Raila’s allies said stormed out of Parliament, after failing to agree with the ruling of Speaker Wetang’ula, on them assuming their actual position as the Minority party.
As the debate continues, Belgut MP Nelson Koech hinted about the Kenya Kwanza looking for structures to position Raila, including the Prime Minister position, so as the government can continue to receive counsel from the opposition chief.
His sentiments were echoed by Nandi senator Samson Cherargei, who called for full implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, to allow Raila assume the Prime Minister role.
