Occasional Rains Expected in Major Parts of the Country in the Coming Months

The Kenya Meteorological (Kenya Met) Department has released a weather outlook for a period of 7 days, starting today up to January 13, 2025.

According to the forecast, the majority of the country will see primarily dry weather in January and chilly nights with temperatures dropping to below 10°C in central Highlands, South Rift and South East Lowlands.

Some regions, including the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and Southern Rift Valley, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern lowlands, the Coastal strip, and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, are anticipated to have occasional rainfall.

Additionally, the department has developed and emphasized the most likely for February and March, 2025.

Majority of the country is likely to experience sunny, dry weather with daytime heat of temperature greater than 30°C in Coast , North Eastern, North West, Western Kenya, Lake Basin and South East Lowlands.

The meteorological department also reveals that during the forecast period, there may be occasional rainy days in a few locations in the Lake Victoria Basin, Central and Southern Rift Valley, Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Coastal region, and the Southeastern lowlands.

The weather service further discloses that by March, this rain is expected to stretch to a number of locations in the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and Southern Rift Valley, and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley with the areas experiencing light to moderate rains.

With such revelations, the regions are expected to put into consideration the said forecasts to avoid major losses likely to be experienced when the rains occur.

In the month of December last year, the better part of the Lake Region experienced heavy rains which resulted in floods in the areas bordering major rivers prone to floods.

As the year drew to a close, the rainfall reduced significantly after Boxing Day, with much of the country transitioning to sunny and dry conditions.
