The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), in a statement, has demanded for the immediate resignation of state officials who have been on the frontline supporting abductions.

The commission has clamoured for resignation of Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, Mojority Leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah,  Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Sisiria MP John Waluke and Tiaty MP William Kamket.

They are being targeted following their utterances, that the human rights defender claim spearhead abductions, following mischievous missing of government critics that have been experienced in the country over the last two weeks. The commission also wants the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to resign with immediate effect.

“Further, the KHRC demands the immediate resignation of Ichung’wah, Kingi, Kamket, Sudi, Murkomen, Waluke, and Kindiki from their state offices over their utterances supporting abductions. We also demand the resignation of inspector-general of Police, Douglas Kanja as abductions occured under his watch,” read the statement in part.

Prof. Kindiki is accused of supporting the police use of excessive force in dealing with protesters, in his utterances he made before the National Assembly on September, 2024 as Amason Kingi is accused of saying that the government should resort to brutal tactics in firmly dealing with the critics.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen denied that there were no abductions as Kenyan youths were continually missing. Waluke during the burial of Moses Wetangula’s mother three days ago, claimed that abduction claims are just fabricated stories to tarnish the reputation of President William Ruto as his counterpart Ichung’wah supported him by affirming that the abductees were faking their abductions for financial gains.

Kamket on his part called the abductees lazy bones in bed while supporting their abductions, as Sudi  asserted that if he was assigned the Interior CS job, he would have mercilessly dealt with the Kenyan youths.

In this regard, the commission confirmed that they are documenting the above utterances, while demanding for a thorough investigations of the potential involvement of the aforementioned state officers in the abductions , admitting that they will be held accountable.

“Additionally, we call for impartial and thorough investigation into their statements and potential involvement in the abductions and extrajudicial killings of state critics. Those found culpable must face prosecutions and be prematurely barred from holding state or public offices,” assured the commission.

This statement comes hours after the abductees Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Rony Kiplangat, Kibet Bull and Benard Kasavuli were released by their alleged abductors today. However, Steve Mbisi’s whereabouts still remain a puzzle.
