Wanga Launches Grants for Ward -Based Agricultural SACCOS

Homabay County Government today launched Inclusion Grants worth KES 12,750,000 for 15 ward-based agricultural SACCOs as well as unveiling Agricultural Community Driven Development Committees (CDDC) and Sustainable Land Management Committees (SLMC) within the County to support the county’s sustainable agricultural programs.

The said initiatives, backed by the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NACDP), aim to transform the county’s agricultural sector into a dynamic force that enhances livelihoods, drives economic growth, and empowers communities.

Speaking during the event, Governor Gladys Wanga congratulated the Community Driven Development Committee and Sustainable Land Development Committee’s leadership for honoring the trust to serve with integrity and innovation, while charging the leadership to demonstrate the same level of commitment and accountability the county has shown to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of agricultural investment.

“Having signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the county government and the formal partners in implementing agricultural programs in the county ,the county government is committed to fulfilling it’s commitment and accountability and expects the SACCOs to do the same” Wanga read.

Governor Wanga stated that her government has initiated a comprehensive farmer registration campaign which was part of the National farmer registration campaign which has over 245000 farmers, bringing Homabay to position five in the country.

The registered farmers will be strategically grouped into 8000 common interest groups and vulnerable and marginalized groups which will be connected to the 40 Agricultural based SACCOS to help in streamlining agricultural investments and ensuring equitable participation.

“The county government has allocated 10.2M to be awarded to 12 deserving SACCOS to motivate other SACCOs,” Wanga mentioned.

The governor urged the SACCO leaderships to mobilize people to join SACCOS,have SACCO investments to widen the SACCOS with Kshs.350000 allocated for member mobilization.
