Today 26th November 2024, President William Ruto made a stop over at Kondele, Kisumu, after attending the 4th AFSNET Conference. While talking to the people of Kondele he pledged to improve fishing practices in Lake Victoria and ensure the safety of local fishermen.
He promised to allocate Kshs. 300 million for Asati and Ogal landing sites as well as Kshs. 800 million for fish ports and training for fishermen in the Western and Nyanza region.
“Kisumu is a city of fishermen, and we are allocating Kshs. 300 million for the Asati and Ogal landing sites to ensure that young people can engage in fishing properly. Next year, we are providing 800 million for fish ports, training, and supporting fishermen from Bungoma to Migori,” stated the President.
During the address, the President also expressed his support for Raila Odinga’s bid for the AU Chairmanship.
“I agreed and said that I once helped Agwambo, and this time he has reciprocated by helping me as we speak Agwambo is seeking the AU Chairman seat and I am praying for him to win.”
Kisumu Governor, H.E Prof. Anyang Nyong’o thanked the President for visiting Kisumu and lauded him for supporting the city’s development projects.
“Thank you, Mr. President, for honoring us with your presence. Kisumu is truly appreciative of your dedication to advancing our development initiatives. This includes progressing the Special Economic Zone in Miwani, completing the Conference Centre at the Mamboleo ASK Grounds, finalizing the Kabonyo Kanyagwal Fisheries and Aquaculture Training Center of Excellence, enhancing Lakefront development, establishing the Maritime Surveillance Centre, and constructing fish landing sites,” said Nyong’o.
