Kenyans have become furious following Nandi Senator, Hon. Samson Cherargei’s statement concerning the data he shared claiming that 60 percent of Kenyans supported his bill on presidential term limit.

According to Cherargei, there were over 500,000 Kenyans who sent their emails to the Senate concerning the bill.

He claimed that only 40 percent of those emails the Senate received reject his proposal on the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment ) Bill 2024.

“I want to report to you that the email of the Senate is approaching half a million, emails that reacted to my bill Mr. Speaker and Kenyans are 60, 40. As at now, 60 percent of Kenyans are supporting my bill, 40 percent are opposing it,” he was quoted.

The bill seeks to extend the President’s term limit from the current five years to seven. This applies to other elective positions.

Kenyans did not take it easy after a video of the Senator leaking the outcome of their emails surfaced on social media.

Kenyans criticised the outcomes and poured out their anger on the Senator. They responded as captured below;

Carlmaury wrote, “ Mhesh @scherargei please provide more than just figures; we need detailed statistics. Breakdown the data by percentages or absolute numbers, categorised by region, gender, diaspora, and employment status (employed vs. non-employed). Do you have statistics on Kenyans regarding their use of email? Specifically, what is the ratio of registered voters who have and use email compared to those who do not?’’

Naya Bingi said, “ No need for that, let that scumbag tell us how he managed to read close to 500,000 emails in a few days. Assuming the emails are read at the rate of 1 email per minute without a break, he will need over 300 days. Lying requires intelligence too.’’

Mr. Slim, “ Is this an insult or what, seems they never learn.’’

Kevin Bett said that the Senator is risking an impeachment.

“If a senator lies in public media, he should be impeached once the evidence comes out … this is total disregard of the public opinion,” said Bett.

Paul Collins supported Bett on impeaching Cherargei, “Lying to Kenyans should be an impeachable offence,” he wrote.

Nissi Ngema reminded the Senator that he took an oath of office to respect the law.

She wrote, “@scherargei @Senate_KE remember you took an oath to respect the Constitution. We need the actual figures provided by the Senate.’’
